Reviews Are The New Marketing Gold

Have you considered just how valuable reviews are as a marketing tactic?

They’re free.  They’re like a billboard you never have to pay for and it gets incredible amounts of traffic.   They’re as persuasive as a doctor’s advice.  Yet, an incredible amount of businesses don’t utilize this gift that has been given to us by Google.  Google did it to help users with better decisions and I suspect it has.  But what it’s really done is give us business folks a free advertising tool with considerable influence on the customer’s decision to buy from us or not.

Think about it.  When you used the internet to help decide where to buy or where to eat or where to get your car fixed, you looked at reviews to help you decide if the place was going to be a good way to spend your money or not.   People do it all the time.   And if your reviews suck, you’re in big trouble because the customer will be persuaded by what they read.  If your reviews are good then you have a marketing tool that’s auto-pilot sending you lots of business all the time.

Thus, this tool must managed by you.  You must see to it that you consistently get good reviews.  Have a system in place in your business to get good reviews from customers.  Keep farming for 5-star reviews because as time marches on, you will get bad reviews.  It takes at least ten reviews to offset a bad review – and you WILL get bad reviews.  They’ll come from competitors who want to hurt you.  They’ll come from bad-apple customers who get their kicks by hurting businesses just because they were looked at wrong. They’ll come from good customers who genuinely didn’t like what you did.   You have to learn how to deal with these and turn them into gold because you can.

In the meantime, work to get every customer to give you a review if you think it’ll be a positive one.  Your goal is a 5-star review every time.  If you don’t get it, then figure out how to get it and get the customer to change it.

When people see your reviews they know you had no way of manipulating the review process and will believe what they see and read about you.  It will be like their best friend recommended they spend money with you.  It couldn’t be a better gift from Google and all the other review sites.  Learn to embrace the reviews.  Don’t see them as a pain in the ass, even though it can feel like that sometimes.   Use it to bring in customers and rack up lots of sales.
